The Charleston Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) is extending an invitation to all SC.GMIS members to attend its Risk Management Seminar on Oct. 7, 2010, at the Low Country Graduate Center in Charleston, S.C.

SC.GMIS members will be able to attend this full-day session, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., for the special low PMI member price of $270 while earning seven PDUs in the process.

This information-packed seminar provides an overview of project risk management techniques while providing participants the opportunity to not only learn how to identify project risks, but also how to manage those risks throughout the project life cycle. This year’s event will include the return of Dr. James Brown, who spoke at the March 2010 PMI Charleston meeting and received enthusiastic responses from those in attendance. Dr. Brown’s sessions are internationally recognized for being both entertaining and informative.

So if you are looking for PDUs that are filled with practical real world tips taught in an entertaining fashion, sign up now! Seating is limited and it is filling up fast!

To register, or for complete details, please visit the PMI Charleston event Web page and be sure to mention that you are a member of SC.GMIS. For other questions, please contact Kim Hranowsky, the V.P. of Professional Development for PMI Charleston via e-mail.

We have turned the page on yet another great Leadership Summit! We could not have pulled this off without the help of many people! Although all of the board members worked hard on planning and executing the event, there are a few volunteers who spent a great deal of time at the event working!

These volunteers include BM Cave, Beverly Cave, Dave Moses, and Captain Andy Jordan. Also, a big thanks to Doug Hislop and Dave Moses for "volunteering" to moderate the panel discussion on Tuesday!

Last of all, an enormous THANK YOU to Dave Moses for cleaning up the meeting room for me while I attended the Board Luncheon on Wednesday!

I must say again how much I enjoy working with SC.GMIS. What a great group of people!

SC.GMIS 2nd Vice President BM Cave presented changes to the by-laws at the business meeting today. These changes include new titles for board positions (to better describe their responsibilities), a new board position tasked with working with our important vendor-partners, and an administrative change to the way funds will be dispersed if our chapter ever chooses to dissolve.

The bylaw changes were approved unanimously by voice vote. The new bylaws will be posted by the end of the month.
