SC.GMIS Awards Program 2008

The awards program for SCGMIS consists of several components, designed to recognize outstanding contributions to the mission of SCGMIS as well as identify creative solutions in utilizing and maximizing information technology resources.

There are four chapter awards, nominated by members of the Awards Subcommittee and approved by the SC.GMIS Executive Board. These include the "Ambassador", "Champions", and "Prestigious Partner" awards. A fourth award, known as the "President’s" Award, is presented to a deserving board member who is selected by the President. Two additional awards, known as "Elite Achievers" recognize significant achievements in implementing technology solutions; this award class involves an application process by the member agency.

The SCGMIS "Ambassador" Award
The SCGMIS Ambassador Award is designed to recognize an individual within the SCGMIS organization who demonstrates a high level of commitment and contributes willingly of their time and resources to improve the organization as a whole. All individuals in the organization, regardless of affiliation, are eligible for this award except for SCGMIS Executive Board members. Nominations are made by the Awards Subcommittee and a winner selected by the Executive Board.

The SCGMIS "Champions" Award
The SCGMIS Champion Award recognizes a member agency that provides exceptional support to the organization through commitment of time and resources, enhancing the overall success of the organization. All member agencies in good standing are eligible for this award. Nominations are made by the Awards Subcommittee and a winner selected by the Executive Board.

The SCGMIS "Prestigious Partner" Award
The SCGMIS Prestigious Partner Award recognizes a Vendor / Partner who has supported the organization throughout the year by active sponsorships, promotional activities, educational programs, and participation in SCGMIS activities. All vendor / partners in good standing are eligible for this award. Nominations are made by the Awards Subcommittee and a winner selected by the Executive Board.

The SCGMIS "President’s" Award
The President’s Award recognizes outstanding contributions and support from an Executive Board Member; the winner is selected by the SCGMIS President.

SC.GMIS "Elite Achievers" Award
The "Elite Achievers" award categories were created to identify and recognize outstanding achievements in the implementation of creative information technology initiatives within member agencies or communities. Two awards will be presented and are based on agency size as defined by the GMIS organization. The first award group is for agencies with annual information technology budgets less than $1,000,000. The second award group is for any member agency with an IT budget greater than $1,000,000.

Agencies must apply for an "Elite Achievers" award through a formalized application process. Applicants may also be encouraged to present an overview of their projects at the annual SC.GMIS meeting in order to share the information on a broader scale.

An application form must be completed and up to three pages of detailed narrative and supporting documentation regarding the project must be included. Applications should be submitted electronically to the Awards Subcommittee Chairperson (Third Vice President) no later than 5pm on March 31.

The subcommittee will also contact key users of the system or technology to get their opinion on success of the technology. Subcommittee will vote on the top three applications per award category with final selection of the winning project determined by the vote.

These awards will be presented at the SC.GMIS annual conference along with a commemorative plaque recognizing the agencies’ efforts and distinction.
